Fresh Brewed Iced Green Tea
Earlier I tweeted (twitted? twittered? tweet?) that I brewed my first pitcher of iced green tea ever, and I've received a couple of inquiries on how I did it. Simple as pie (which isn't simple, by the way), but I guess there are other people who never did it before, like me.
Here's what I did:
I got a 2qt pitcher. That equals 8 cups, for the measurementally challenged.
In a large microwave safe bowl, I boiled 8 cups of water. I made sure it came to a full boil. Keep an eye on it though, you don't want it boiling too long, as it will boil over or steam away, losing volume.
After it's done boiling, I threw in 8 green tea bags. Choose your favorite.
I let it seep for a couple of hours. I like it strong. Once it's cooled down enough I poured the whole kit and caboodle into the pitcher - including the tea bags. Into the fridge it went to get cold.
I left it unsweetened as everyone in the family likes different levels of sweetness. I have a particularly bad sweet tooth, so for each 16 oz cup I use 4 splendas. Yes, 4. I know, I know.
Feel free to add a lemon, lime or orange wedge for an additional summery taste and feel. Inexpensive, healthy, and no cal all summer long!
BONUS TIP: rinse your long hair in it for extra shine during the summer months, but careful if you're blonde as it may darken it a bit. Also great for soaking in a warm bath - but again, it could temporarily tan you!
